Yangon/Amsterdam, 9 December 2015
A prominent group of companies and organisations from the Dutch water sector is announcing the first edition of the Myanmar-Netherlands Water Challenge to start in January 2016.
Under the theme SMART DELTA, the program will engage university students across Myanmar with the challenges of sustainable delta development. Students will be encouraged to apply their own, original thinking to develop ideas and solutions for the Ayeyarwady Delta, supported by professional experts from the Dutch partners.
Lead partners of the challenge are Arcadis, Van Oord, Royal HaskoningDHV, Deltares and the Netherlands Embassy in Yangon. They will be highlighting different dimensions of the Delta - related to their own areas of expertise - and support the student teams to develop and present their ideas.
Says Mrs. Carola Baller, Chargé d’Affaires of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Myanmar: “Close cooperation between government, knowledge institutes and private sector is the highway to innovation. The Myanmar-Netherlands Water Challenge is an excellent initiative, which inspires the next generation water leaders in Myanmar to develop their own solutions for the sustainable development of the Delta and stimulates cooperation between the education- and private sector.”
The Myanmar-Netherlands Water Challenge program will feature a series of exciting activities, starting with a launch event in January, a campus program in February/March and a three-day intensive Delta Academy in May.
